WE WON !!! The 2021 LA County Mock Trial Champion is DBHS!!! Thursday, December 2, 2021, our MOCK TRIAL TEAM became the 2021 Los Angeles County Champs! We now advance to the State Championships, the weekend of March 19, 2022. This will be our first time back to the State Championships in just over 20 years. It was a magical night from start to finish! Pretrial: Mingyu Liu: no notes, ever, answered countless questions posed by the judge, he was formidable! Jeremiah Jung: A flawless opening, his questioning was so mature, confident. Alexandra Chala: Awarded MVP by the opposing team. She is BRUTAL. The other team cowered with her cross examinations and fierce objections. Eileen Zu: OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She rewrote her closing argument TODAY and it was phenomenal. And she handled objections that shut down the other team's strategy. It was the first time in our last 4 rounds that the defendant was convicted of first-degree murder. Isaac Miao: friend of the victim, so convincing, a truly natural acting gift. Vishnu Sriram: a county line worker who bravely sucked the venom out of the victim's snake bite. He is so much fun on the witness stand. Victoria Wang: the deputy sheriff who was first on the scene and the arresting officer. If you know Victoria then you know that she worked harder than anybody to give a controlled performance where the most enthusiasm she ever showed was answering with yes ma’am or no sir. Ashley Sha: the medical examiner. To explain the victim's cause of death, she pronounced words that are too long for me to print . Julienne Uy: a clerk is essential to the competition and Julienne must time every performance and must almost instantly be able to give updates for time remaining. She is the type of reliable that makes the rest of us look good. Mock Trial Courtroom Reporters & Courtroom Artists Separate from the Mock Trial competition, each school can have up to 3 Courtroom artists and 3 Courtroom Reporters compete. Our 3 courtroom reporters sat through the second round of competition then wrote a mock newspaper article about the trial and submitted it for judging. The courtroom reporters from DBHS were JIANLAN BUESTEED-CHAO, MARCUS HSIEH, MAIA PAK. We found out at the Award Ceremony tonight that MARCUS HSIEH took FIRST PLACE!! Our 3 courtroom artists sat through the 2nd round of competition and had only the length of the trial to draw a scene from the trial. The 3 submissions by DBHS courtroom artists are display here. Our artists were HANNAH ZHOU, ELISA LOPEZ-ROCHIN, and SUSAN WANG. Also, at tonight's Award Ceremony we found out that SUSAN WANG took SECOND PLACE. These Brahmas are pretty spectacular!
