On Wednesday, January 18, a ceremony to mark the official groundbreaking of the Diamond Bar High School Denis R. Paul Aquatic Center will be held at DBHS.

The aquatic center will have a 12-lane pool, locker room with restrooms, public restrooms, a coach’s room, a team room, pool storage and pool equipment buildings, and stadium seating with a shade structure. A two story classroom will also be built, which will feature 20 classrooms.

It is expected to take almost two years to complete.

According to the Walnut Valley Unified School District, modernization and construction projects for the district are made possible by voter approval of Bond Measures S and Y, which were passed in November 2007. The contract was awarded to Novus Construction on October 19, 2011, for $10,748,000. The center was designed by Aquatic Design Group, which has created pools throughout the United States and Europe, with Henry Woo Architects, Inc. serving as the architectural firm.

In the spring of 2011, the firm met with the Division of State Architects to begin the final approval process for the pool and shade structure, and above ground electrical, underground utilities, site preparation, underground gas service, and site preparation are already completed.
