  1. Who should take Chinese Placement Test (CPT)?

Students in following categories should take the Chinese Placement Test:

  1. DBHS students who wants to enroll in Chinese program for a higher level than Chinese I;
  2. Middle school students who will enroll in Diamond Bar High School the coming year;
  3. DBHS Chinese Program students who are recommended by the teacher to take CPT test to go to higher level class.


Proper level of class is extremely important, it will start you with success and, even more important, prevent future learning problems.

  1. What are Chinese courses offered at DBHS Chinese Program?
    1. Chinese I
    2. Chinese II
    3. Chinese II Honor
    4. Chinese III
    5. Chinese III Honor
    6. Chinese IV
    7. Chinese IV Honors (Chinese Language and Culture AP or  Mandarin IB Standard Level)
    8. Chinese V (Mandarin IB High Level or for advanced level Chinese learners)

  1. Prerequisites for each Chinese level class.


To be successful in Honors, AP, and IB classes, students must have positive attitude for learning.

Chinese II & II Honor – you can use Chinese for basic communication and you can write a paragraph with minimum 10 complete sentences for a specific topic.


Chinese III & III Honor – you can use Chinese for communication and you can write a short essay in 3 paragraphs with minimum 16 complete sentences for a specific topic.


Chinese IV AP/ IB – you can use Chinese for communication and you can write an essay in 4 paragraphs with minimum 22 complete sentences for a specific topic.

  1. When should I register for annual Chinese Placement Test?

You should complete registration before the end of the February.  The test is given in March.  You are responsible to check the test date online and appear at the testing site on the test date.

  1. How can I find out the CPT test date?

Test date will be posted online at the beginning of February on Diamond Bar High School Website: www.dbhs.org Academic   Chinese Department   Chinese Language Home Page   DBHS Chinese Placement Test     CPT Test Date

  1. When will I find out my CPT result?

Two weeks after the testing date

  1. How should I register for Chinese Placement Test?
  • Go to Diamond Bar High School website-www.dbhs.org,
  • At the left hand corner, find “Academic”.  Click on the “Academic”
  • Find “Chinese Language” under “Educational Support Department”.  Click on “Chinese Language
  • Go to” Chinese Language Home” page.  Find & select “DBHS Chinese Placement Test  Online Registration”
  • Fill out the registration form and save.
  • You are done!

Remarks:  If you are placed in Honor or Level V classes, you are responsible to obtain related course summer work from DBHS website.  Students need to complete summer work before the beginning the school year and turn it in on the assigned due date.

  1. How do I take Chinese class placement test?

Students need to:

    1. Complete and submit CPT registration form online.
    2. Follow instructions to show up 10 minutes earlier on testing date at testing site to get ready for testing.  
    3. Bring your student ID.
    4. Testers are required to prepare with stationery for the test.

  1. Go to Diamond Bar High School website-www.dbhs.org,
  2. At the left hand corner, find “Academic”.  Click on the “Academic”
  3. Find “Chinese Language” under “Educational Support Department”.  Click on “Chinese Language
  4. Go to Chinese Language Home page. Find & select “DBHS Chinese Placement Test Result”
  5. Check your test result under your student ID#.

  1.  Do I need to do summer work?

Students who are going to take Honors and AP/IB classes are responsible to find out related course summer work from DBHS website.  

Students need to complete summer work before the beginning the school year and turn it in on the assigned due date.

  1.  If I am a Chinese American, will taking Chinese affect my college application status?


Your college application should based on your school GPA, courses that you took, SAT testing results, volunteer work, and many  other criterion.  Taking Chinese classes with successful grade should only help your college application status.  The ethnicity of students should not have any affects.
