2012 Korean Placement Test  Information

   Date: Friday, March 16, 2012 @ 3:30

   Location: DBHS J building Room # 189

 

 

1.  Who should take Korean Placement Test (KPT)?

 

   Students in following categories should take the Korean Placement Test:

   DBHS students who wants to enroll in Korean program for a higher level than   Korean 1

   Middle school students who will enroll in Diamond Bar High School the coming year;

   DBHS  Korean Program students who are recommended by the teacher to take KPT test to go to higher level class.

 

   Proper level of class is extremely important, it will start you with success and, even more important, prevent future learning problems.


2.  What are Korean courses offered at DBHS  Program?

o   Korean I

o   Korean II

o   Korean II Honor

o   Korean  III

o   Korean III Honor

o   Korean IV

o   Korean IV Honors (Korean IB Standard Level)

o   Korean V (Korean IB High Level for advanced level Korean learners)

 

3.  Prerequisites for each Korean level class.

 

o   To be successful in Honors and IB classes, students must have positive attitude for learning.

 

Korean II & II Honor – you can use Korean for basic communication and you can write 3 paragraphs with minimum 12 complete sentences for a specific topic.

 

Korean III & III Honor – you can use Korean for communication and you can write a short essay in 4 paragraphs with minimum 16 complete sentences for a specific topic.

 

Korean IV – you can use Korean for advanced communication and you can write an essay in 5 paragraphs with minimum 20 complete sentences for a specific topic.

 

Korean I.B. ---you can use Korean for communication almost like natives in politics, economics, and social issues.


4.  When should I register for annual Korean Placement Test?

 

o   You do not have to register. But you should know the test date and take a placement test for your level.  You are responsible to check the test date online and appear at the testing site on the test date.


5.  How can I find out the KPT test date?

 

o   Test date will be posted online at the beginning of February on Diamond Bar High School Website: www.dbhs.org


6.  When will I find out my KPT result?

 

o   One week after the testing date at window  of the room # 189.

 

Remarks: If you are placed in Honor or Level V classes, you are responsible to obtain related course summer work from DBHS website. Students need to complete summer work before the beginning the school year and turn it in on the assigned due date.

 

 

7.  Do I need to do summer work?

 

Students who are going to take Honors and IB classes are responsible to find out related course summer work from DBHS website.

8.   If I am a Korean American, will taking Korean affects my college application status?

 

NO.

Your college application should based on your school GPA, courses that you took, SAT or ACT testing results, volunteer work, and many other criterion. Taking Korean classes with successful grade should only help your college application status. The ethnicity of students should not have any affects.
