Scholarship and College Information — September 2026

UC/CSU

  • Begin UC and CSU applications through CaliforniaColleges.edu. Applications may be submitted beginning October 1.
  • DBHS transcript information transfers into the UC application, but students should verify it and manually enter courses taken elsewhere.
  • UC application help: UC First-Year Application Guide, (800) 207-1710, or [email protected].
  • CSU applicants must select Fall 2027. Visit the Cal State Apply Help Center for assistance.
  • DBHS UC/CSU Workshop: September 16 at 5:30 p.m.
  • UCLA Information Session: September 24, 6:30–8:30 p.m., at Glen A. Wilson High School.
  • CSU admission is based primarily on courses and GPA. UC uses comprehensive review, including GPA, course rigor, achievements, talents, leadership, improvement, and life experiences.
  • UC and CSU do not consider SAT or ACT scores for admission.

Private Schools

  • More than 1,000 colleges use the Common Application.
  • Review each school’s requirements and deadlines. Some scholarship and Early Action deadlines occur earlier than Regular Decision deadlines.
  • Private colleges may require recommendations from a GLC and two academic teachers.
  • Complete the Senior Letter of Recommendation Packet and Senior Profile, then personally deliver the packet to your GLC.
  • Do not list UC or CSU campuses on recommendation requests.
  • Final recommendation request deadline: September 24 at 3:30 p.m.
  • Invite your GLC through Common App after entering your senior classes:

SAT/ACT

  • UC and CSU campuses do not use SAT or ACT scores for admission.
  • Test-optional private colleges may consider scores if submitted.
  • Some colleges, including MIT and UPenn, require testing. Verify each school’s current policy.
  • Register through College Board or ACT.

College Events and Resources

  • Service Academy Information Night: September 9 at 5:00 p.m., virtual.
  • Latino College Expo: September 12, 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., University of La Verne.
  • Young Black Scholars College Fair: September 19, 8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., West Los Angeles College.
  • District College Fair: October 1, 6:00–8:30 p.m., DBHS gym. More than 50 colleges will attend.
  • Check the DBHS College & Career Center for upcoming college visits.
  • Families who may qualify should complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application to access possible testing and application-fee reductions.

Scholarships

  • Search for additional opportunities through FastwebBigFuture, and Niche.
  • The Gates Scholarship: Full remaining cost of attendance for eligible high-achieving students with financial need. Deadline: September 15.
  • Milken Scholars Program: Scholarship, counseling, and internship support. Email your GLC for nomination by September 15.
  • 56th Assembly District Writing Contest: Submit responses to two UC Personal Insight Questions for a chance to receive $1,000. Deadline: September 18.
  • Coca-Cola Scholars: 150 scholarships of $20,000 for student leaders. Deadline: September 30.
  • QuestBridge National College Match: Possible full four-year scholarships for outstanding students with financial need. Deadline: October 1.
