This play by Mary Zimmerman is an adaptation of the classic tale from Chinese literature about the Tripitaka Tang's journey to retrieve sacred scrolls from western Asia and India. It features Senior Matthew Lee as Tripitaka Tang, Senior Nicholas Azurin as The Monkey King, Junior Amelia Anijielo as Sha Monk, Senior Daniel Durkee as Bajie, the Pig and Junior Pilar Alcazar as Bodhisattva Guanyin. The entire cast has taken movement and Commedia dell'arte workshops to prepare them for the vaudevillian comedy and physical comedy demands of this piece. Theatre Academy students have spent weeks designing and constructing headpieces for the show and the music features original compositions by alumnus, Will Nazareno, played onstage by several talented DBHS musicians. The show will be judged by CETA judges on November 6th so it would be great to have a big audience that day.
