Brahmas Compete In USA Biology Olympiad

DBHS junior Rick Liu and senior Andy Tseng made it to the penultimate round of testing in the 2019 USA Biology Olympiad, as did Alice Wang in 2018. They made it to the last cut prior to the Final 20 in this national competition and were given Honorable Mention. This is an impressive achievement. They ranked in the top 10% of the competitors.

As the premiere biology competition for high school students in the United States since it began in 2002, the USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) enriches the life science education of nearly 10,000 talented students annually. It provides the motivation, curricular resources, and skills training to take them beyond their classroom experience to the level of international competitiveness.

After two rounds of challenging exams, 20 Finalists are invited to a residential training program at the USABO National Finals, soon to be held at the University of California San Diego and most recently hosted by Marymount University. The students participate in 10 days of biology instruction inclusive of laboratory training and conceptual understanding followed by two days of testing. Ultimately, four students earn the right to advance as Team USA at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO), a worldwide competition involving student teams from over sixty countries.
