Division Teachers Of The Year

Congratulations to Ty Watkins, Dawn Daza and Jared Kaitz for being named DBHS Division Teachers of the Year for their dedication and service. The staff has cast their votes, soon one of them will be named Diamond Bar High's 2020 Teacher of the Year.

TY WATKINS:
The Health/PE, CTE/ROP & Social Science Division Teacher of the Year is Ty Watkins. In his 16 years as a Brahma, Ty has initiated our new AP Human Geography class, coached multiple sports here at DBHS including football, basketball, golf, and softball. This year, he unselfishly joined the Pathways Communications Academy team and took on a class he had never taught: Leadership. Since being involved in PCA Leadership, he arranged the behind-the-scenes tour at Knott’s “SCARY” Farm, created that amazing Haunted House in the 500 building and has brought numerous guest speakers (including accomplished Brahma alumni) for the seniors to hear. Ty continues to work as an outstanding AP teacher, providing his students with multiple afterschool study sessions, where he comes in after softball practice and stays for a couple hours late at night, in preparation for the AP exams. He is always willing to go above and beyond in supporting DBHS.

DAWN DAZA:
The Math, Science & SPED Division Teacher of the Year is Dawn Daza. Dawn began her teaching career with DBHS 4 years ago as a long term sub. Since then, she has made connections with students and staff, establishing her reputation not only as a phenomenal teacher but as a caring and kind part of our Diamond Bar family. Dawn is also the head coach for our Science Olympiad team and a campus leader in our SEL Council who has given so much of her personal time to make our staff lunch area a cozy and inviting place to take a time our and engage with each other.

JARED KAITZ:
The English/ELD, World Language & Arts Division Teacher of the Year is Jared Kaitz. Jared is in his 3rd year at Diamond Bar. Jared is absolutely amazing. He doesn’t only direct the plays at DBHS but also makes costumes and spends ENDLESS hours preparing the students for their stellar performances. Jared has been working hard this year and has contributed greatly to our campus culture. He is always positive; he is constantly busy. His work ethic and his selflessness as he gives tremendously to DBHS is admirable. His ingenuity in choosing good productions and then inspiring kids to do their best makes him easily Teacher of the Year for this division.
