SENIOR NEWSLETTER DEBUTS NEXT TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST

Students and parents, please be on the lookout for the debut of the Senior Newsletter.  The 1st day of each month, students and primary parent email addresses will receive our Senior Newsletter.  A wealth of information is included and is a MUST read!  You will find tips and suggestions on the college-application process and all-important information on available scholarship opportunities.

SENIOR PROFILE PACKET

Seniors applying to a university which requires a letter of recommendation, must complete and submit their Senior Profile Packet-SPP.  As previously announced, the submission process of the SPP is being done electronically this year.  Students are to submit the SPP with the Google Form which can be found on the Class of 2021 Webpage.  The first due date is Friday, August 28th by 3:00 pm.  We had originally stated Noon as the deadline time, but we are going to extend it to 3:00 pm for the  procrastinators!-This first due date is for students applying to any university via the Early Decision or Early Action Admission option.  The last due date is September 18th for students who are only applying via the Regular Decision Admission option.  Keep in mind, don’t wait for the due date, submit your SPP as soon as you have it ready!

Students applying only to UC and/or CSU campuses DO NOT need to complete the Senior Profile Packet!

Students are to carefully read the information/instructions on the Google Form.  Students should verify, per instructions, that the SPP was received properly by DBHS.  It is the responsibility of the student to ensure the SPP was received by DBHS.

UC APPLICATION

As previously announced and discussed, the University of California-UC Admissions Application is open.  Students may begin completing the application now.  Students will not be able to submit the UC application until the November 1-30 submission period.  Plan ahead, we suggest students submit this UC application prior to going on our Thanksgiving break to avoid “peak-use” time on the application server.  Below is a link for an excellent series of Instructional Videos produced by the UC system and hosted by UCSB.  There are (9) videos ranging from 2-6 minutes each and are easy to view and listen to with great information.

Try a personalized UC Application Workshop-Register using the link below.  These are workshops for the UC application regardless of which UC Campuses to which you are applying.  It is hosted by UCSB.  Great opportunity. Link below:

Key UC Application reminders:

  • Personal Insight Questions:  Answer 4/8 prompts and that means “answer” all of the question.  These are not essays, they are answers to questions.  No titles are needed, just good old-fashioned facts, information and examples of your experiences.  Use “I and my” and express in your answer how you and the UC system are a good match.
  • Avoid using Acronyms in any college application.  An acronym familiar to all here at DBHS may mean nothing to an admission’s counselor-spell things out.
  • On the UC Application-Use the HELP BUTTON!  Great answers to frequently asked questions are posted on the application.

CSU APPLICATION

The Cal State University-CSU Admissions Application will be made available on October 1st.  Students will be able to complete and submit the CSU application from October 1 through November 30th.  Again, we recommend to plan ahead and submit the CSU application before we go on Thanksgiving break to avoid “peak-use” time on the application server.

GRADUATION CAP & GOWN, ANNOUNCEMENTS, MORE SENIOR GEAR ETC.

Herff Jones is the vendor used by DBHS for Cap and Gown, Graduation Announcement and other orders.  If you have previously tried to place an order, you may have not been able to via their webpage.  We have been promised that the webpage will be activated in the next day or two for Order Placements.
