The Brahma Swim Team had its league finals Saturday morning, May 15, 2021. Our swimmers arrived at Rowland High School at 6:45 am to warm up for the meet at 9 am.
Your Brahma swimmers are undefeated this season in the Hacienda League. Every week, they dominated the pool with all four levels, JV girls, JV boys, Varsity girls, and Varsity boys in all dual meets.
Their results at League Finals were phenomenal. Because of COVID, they were limited to only Varsity league finals, instead of JV and Varsity Prelims and Finals. Here are the highlights of Saturday's events.
Of the 36 DBHS varsity swimmers, 34 swam their season or lifetime best in their events. We are Division 1 this year, and after over a year out of the pool, those required times to make it to CIF were extremely tough. At the start of season, we had only 2 people with a CIF consideration times. At league finals, only 7 weeks later, we had 19 CIF Consideration times and 6 CIF Automatic times (consideration means they will be considered to race if not enough people get automatic times in our division).
We broke FOUR school records Saturday.
Junior Kai-Min Tsuei dominated the 100 backstroke record set in 2016 as the first girl to swim under 24 seconds, with a time of 23.88. Her time placed her first in league, got her a CIF automatic time, and got her an All-American Consideration time. She also broke her OWN 100 back record set in 2019 at 56.00 with a time of 55.45. Her time placed her first in league and got her a CIF automatic time. The 6 league coaches voted her to be the Hacienda League Girls MVP.
Junior Matthew Chai dominated the 500 free record set in 2017 with a time of 4:23.39. His time placed him first in league, got him a CIF automatic time, and got him an All-American Automatic time. He also placed first in the 200 Free. The 6 league coaches voted him to be the Hacienda League Boys MVP.
Senior Vincent Cheng, Senior Stephen Lee, Junior Charlie Lin, and Junior Brady Xie broke the school record in the 200 free relay set in 2018 with a time of 1:27.44. Their time placed them first in league and earned them a consideration time for CIF.
Monday, junior MacKenzie Kim competed in her second dive meet at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, and she will be at the CIF dive meet on May 22nd. She broke her own dive record 2 weeks ago. Our swimmers will be notified if they have made it to CIF on May 23rd, and their CIF race is on May 27th (Graduation day!).
