Dear DBHS Parent/Guardian,

  

Below you will find my Principal’s Newsletter.  The goal of the newsletter is to include you as part of the DBHS family as well as make you aware of all the great activities and opportunities available to you and your students.  Time sensitive activities/events are highlighted in red.

 

Be sure to scan the opportunities listed below.  Most activities have an embedded link so that you can quickly and conveniently get more info and/or register if interested.

Tdap booster required to start the 2011-2012 school year: All students must show proof of the Tdap Pertussis booster in order to start school next yearAll 7th-12th graders in the state of California will be getting this booster so do not wait until the last minute! Beat the rush and get your child’s immunization records updated and bring them to the health office ASAP. Please do not wait until August registration as that will create a bottleneck in the recording process.  You may also fax a copy to (909) 595-8301.  For more information, click here.

 

 

AP Proctors needed: Our very important testing season is upon us and we need your assistance!  In order to administer AP tests to our students, we need volunteers to proctor the exams.  No subject matter knowledge is necessary—the only restriction is that you cannot proctor an exam that your child is taking.  We need proctors on the following dates:

 

Monday, 5/2-afternoon (Psychology)

Tuesday, 5/3-morning (Computer Science & Spanish)

Wednesday, 5/4-afternoon (Chinese)

Friday, 5/6-morning (US History)

Friday 5/6-afternoon (European History)

Monday, 5/9-morning (Biology & Music Theory)

Wednesday, 5/11-morning (English Language)

Wednesday, 5/11-afternoon (Statistics)

Thursday, 5/12-afternoon (Economics)

Brahma Foundation Goodwill Fundraiser: The Brahma Foundation is holding a Goodwill donation fundraiser Sunday, May 1st from 9am to 4pm.  Please bring your items to the Diamond Bar High School parking lot and donate to help out your school.  All proceeds earned help our students and teachers! Birthday Announcements: Honor your student’s special day with a birthday announcement displayed on the school marquee.  The cost is $10. You can get a birthday announcement envelope in the front office.  Please provide at least a 2-day notice.

 

 

Booster Anniversary Bingo: On Saturday, May 21st, Boosters will be celebrating their 28th anniversary as a parent organization.  You are invited to attend Bingo that night for a special celebration of increased payouts, cake, and special prizes. Boosters have also started a new progressive Lightning Bonus game with a current jackpot of $2,400!

 

 

Booster’s Denis Paul Scholarship: The Brahma Boosters are proud to announce that they will be awarding their first Denis Paul Scholarship to a graduating senior.  The recipient will receive $1,000.  Applications for this scholarship are available in Mr. Ozaki’s office.  The deadline is May 6th at 3pm.

 

 

Boosters General Meeting: The boosters will be holding their May general meeting in the Golden Horseshoe on May 31st and 7 pm.  Officer elections will be held on this date as the boosters begin their 29th year  of service to the school.  Please join them! Diamond Bar High School Football Team will be holding a Texas Hold Em' Poker Tournament on Friday May 20th.  Tickets are $70 which includes dinner, a drink (Must be 21+), a raffle ticket, and $1,000 worth of chips for the poker tournament.  Everybody at the final table will win a prize! This event is for everyone! FOOTLOOSE: Diamond Bar High School's Performing Arts Department is presenting “FOOTLOOSE THE MUSICAL.”  Come experience the energy and superb entertainment on display as our drama, dance, and music students showcase their talents. Tickets can be purchased during lunch outside the theater or by calling Peter Bland at 909-594-1405 ext. 33276.  Limited seating will be available on performance nights, so order your tickets early! 

 

 

Performance dates for “FOOTLOOSE THE MUSICAL” are April 29, 30 & May 6, 7 @ 7:00 PM. Ticket prices are $12 for students and $14 for adults.

 

 

Future Business Leaders of America: Our FBLA students and advisor, Mr. Ty Watkins recently competed in the state leadership conference in Santa Clara.  Our students did well, particularly Lavanya Jawaharlal and Arthur Teng, who were elected to state and section offices respectively.  For more information on this event, click here

 

 

HOPE Annual Picnic:  HOPE is having their 4th Annual HOPE Picnic on Saturday, May 21st at Heritage Park from 12:00-5:00pm. Please come join us and bring the family. Vans Shoe Design Contest: Diamond Bar High School art and graphic arts students have spent the last couple of months designing shoes for Vans Custom Culture shoe design contest.  The designs submitted by DBHS students made it to the top 50 nation-wide and are included in the Regional finals!  We need your votes to help make our students’ dreams of travelling to New York for the national finals come true.  Just go to http://www.vans.com/customculture/ and vote for Diamond Bar High in the California Finalists section.  Spread the word and be part of helping our students win an all-expense paid trip to the finals in New York City.  The grand prize includes a $50,000 dollar donation to our high school arts program.
