Principal's Memo - Week 37

WEEK 37 – May 15 – May 19

Hello Brahmas,

The College Board is known for its Advanced Placement program, College Prep Exams, and College Admission tools. The work and collaboration between high schools and colleges is significant. I am proud to highlight one of our very own teachers, Ms. Angela Jensvold, as a member of the Physics 2 Development Committee. In this role, she collaborates with college professors in the process of writing the course description and AP Exam for Physics 2. Click HERE for the full story! Good job Ms. Jensvold. Thank you for your leadership and instructional expertise.

Speaking of AP exams, special thanks to Instructional Dean Matthew Brummett for coordinating one of the largest AP Exam administrations around! Our students took over 2700 AP Exams in the last two weeks, an extraordinary accomplishment. There were many people who came together to make the administration flow smoothly. Thanks to all of our AP Teachers. Thank you also to our USB Students, Activities Director Janna Van Horn and teacher Pat Wakefield who greeted the students in the morning, helped serve breakfast & lunch, and encouraged our students. Our Operations Team and Manager Mike Bromberg for setting up all of the testing locations and handling the logistics. Our Technology Coordinator, Mr. Randy Thomas, for all of the tech support. Thanks to all of the proctors and parent volunteers who proctored the exams. Most importantly, thanks to Lisa Krueger, Assistant AP Coordinator, for the numerous hours, and meticulous details required to administer our program. It was a total team effort, and we are so grateful for everyone’s hard work! Go Brahmas!

In spring sports, two of our teams are still competing in CIF competition, Swim and Badminton. Our Brahma Swim team, led by Head Swim Coach Darlys Ankeny, has two swimmers, Kelsey Lloyd and David Wang, who are the CIF Southern Section Division 2 champions of the Women's 100 breaststroke and Men's 500 freestyle, respectively. Coach Ankeny says that Kelsey is the defending CIF 100 breaststroke champion and broke her own school record in the Finals with a time of 1:02.21 to defend her title. David is the reigning Palomares League MVP, breaking his own 500 freestyle school record during the prelims on Friday to earn the top spot. He won the event in the Finals on Saturday. Our Swim Team is traveling to Clovis, CA, for the State Finals Meet this weekend! Click HERE to watch it live!

Our Badminton team also has won a CIF title this season! According to Head Coach Kemp Wells, our defending mixed doubles champions, Senior Justin Lam and Sophomore Mirabelle Huang, had to battle a strong team from Mira Costa.  Congratulations to Justin and Mirabelle for winning 1st place! In addition, in women’s doubles, junior Jasmine Huang and sophomore Angela Zhang earned a second place medal. Coach Wells says that the following players have also qualified for the State Regional Tournament this Saturday: Women’s Singles – junior, Vanessa Do. Women’s Doubles – junior, Lucy Zhang, and junior Amy Sha. Men’s Singles – freshman, Owen Che.

Brahma Softball – This week we received some exciting news about our Softball program. Head Coach Roberta Garcia, and her staff have been selected by the umpires from the Citrus League to receive the Team Sportsmanship Award! The Sportsmanship award is a special honor that reflects the character, and respect that our team has for their opponents, spectators, and umpire and is a direct reflection of the standards our coaching staff has instilled in the program. Thanks to Coach Garcia for all she has done for Diamond Bar.

Go Brahmas!
