Parents of The Class of 2013,

We are approaching the initial application deadline, Wednesday, March 10th, for our freshman to apply and be considered for acceptance to our Pathways Communications Academy-(PCA).  The PCA follows a “school within a school” concept.  Below is additional information on the PCA.

Our entire freshman class enjoyed a presentation introducing the PCA to them a few weeks ago here on campus.  Applications to the Academy are available from the Pathways Communications Academy Director, Mrs. Julie Salas.  Please encourage your student, if the program sounds like a good match, to see Mrs. Salas or their current GLC for additional information.

The Academy is a school within a school and will be starting its (13th) year with the sophomores through seniors in the program. Each year the Academy accepts 60 new incoming sophomores. The Pathways Communication Academy Curriculum includes a broad spectrum of college preparatory and career-oriented courses.  PCA has planned curriculum in conjunction with a steering committee comprised of local businesses and educational institutions which are actively involved.  This partnership with business will continue to be an integral part of the Academy so that students will have "real-life" experiences which will make them more competitive in the job market. The goal of the program is to give students valuable work exposure and experiences in high school so they can focus on a range of career options.

During the sophomore year, students are required to job shadow in a variety of local businesses in order to understand first hand what is required in the work place. In the junior year students are paired with a business person who is willing to mentor, advise, and assist students with career alternatives and decisions.

Students in the Pathways Communications Academy will continue to have the opportunity to follow and meet the University of
