Parents,
On Thursday, March 21, English teachers will administer the essay portion of the Early Assessment Program (EAP) to all 11 th grade students. The EAP is a way of determining your student’s readiness for college-level work in English and math. The results of this assessment will give you an early indication of what needs to be done before or during senior year in order to meet the requirements for work at the California State University or a California Community College.
The three parts of the EAP are:
The 45-minute essay portion administered on Thursday, March 21 st
15 multiple choice English questions administered during our annual STAR testing in April
15 multiple choice Math questions administered during STAR testing
By taking the EAP, your child can:
Earn an exemption from the CSU-required English and/or math placement tests
Avoid investing time and money in college remediation courses that don’t count toward a Bachelor’s Degree. Average tuition cost per semester: $5500+ books, parking, housing, etc.
Identify the need for additional preparation for college-level courses while in high school and adjust senior-year coursework.
Please take the time to discuss this opportunity and encourage your son or daughter to do his/her very best on the EAP Exams in March and the CSTs in April. All three parts must be completed to qualify for the exemptions. By doing so, your child can save you money and save him or herself the time spent in remediation courses. The results of the EAP will appear on the STAR report that is mailed to you every August.
A specially-designed English IV course, Expository Reading and Writing, has been developed for those students who do not achieve an assessment of “College Readiness” on their EAP English test. If this is the case for your child, please inquire with his or her GLC when you register.
