2019 Division Teachers Of The Year

During our most recent staff meeting Tuesday, March 5, the names of the Teachers of the Year for each instructional division were announced. The staff will now vote to choose which of these candidates will be named Diamond Bar High School’s 2019 Teacher of the Year. Congratulations to all of these educators who work so hard to make our school a great learning place for our kids.

 

TEACHER: Cathy Lee
DIVISION: Global Foundations

DEAN’S DESCRIPTION:

Dedicated, hardworking, supportive of students, willing to learn and improve and stretch herself as an educator. It’s the quiet teachers who don’t always get the recognition they deserve, as not many people see what they do.  She has spent much time this year adapting her AP Government class to the changes AP has made and has worked to ensure there aren’t gaping holes in the knowledge of the students.  She is dedicated and kind, a great teacher to our students.

 

 

TEACHER: Jimmy Kuo

DIVISION: Math, Health & PE

DEAN’S DESCRIPTION:

Colleagues have nominated Jimmy for his professionalism, and dedication to teaching. He is  a lifelong learner who has attended multiple professional development workshops/conferences this school year. Jimmy not only coaches the math teams, but also supports his peer's club activities during competitions. Also, he continues to refine the art of teaching mathematics, and demonstrates a strong desire to provide an effective learning environment for his students. In summary, Mr. Kuo's peers have shared some of the following comments about his endless contributions as a DBHS educator:

  • Jimmy is a very thorough teacher. 
  • He is great to work with--very conscientious. He's a great math team coach. 
  • He's available to help students; rewrites tests; has high expectations for students; lots of AP practice - FRQs with positive results; team player.

 

 

TEACHER: Marie Sato

DIVISION: English, ELD & Performing Arts

DEAN’S DESCRIPTION:

Marie Sato is an enthusiastic director who goes above and beyond for all students providing professionalism and excellence to the entire DB Music Program. She puts in countless after-school and weekend hours. In addition, she has been instrumental in the growth and development of the music program at DBHS. She is an amazing teacher, conductor, and individual who encompasses everything our school and our Performing Arts Department represents.

 

 

 

TEACHER: Teresa Hebert

DIVISION: Science & Special Education

DEAN’S DESCRIPTION:

Teresa Hebert joined the DBHS staff in 2009 first as a long term substitute in Chemistry and then as a permanent staff member in our science department.  Teresa is one you can always go to for help and she never hesitates, whether for her students or colleagues.  Teresa is not only a wonderful Chemistry teacher at all levels, but she has also taken on Integrated Science, APES and IB APES. Most recently we had a need in physics, and she stepped right in.  Teresa consistently gives her time freely to students and has developed real relationships showing them she cares and wants the best for each one of them.  Teresa is also the advisor for several after school clubs including HOSA; a group whose mission is to empower future health professionals become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration, and experience.  Teresa has become an integral part of DBHS and its culture.  She is a hardworking, conscientious leader in the science department who is willing to take risks and demonstrate excellence.
