DBHS journalism did well at the Eastern LA-Journalism Education Association regional write-offs held on Saturday, February 29, at Citrus College.
The group of student writers won the Novice News Sweepstakes and finished second in Newspaper Sweepstakes.
Almost every student who went finished in the Top 10 of their event:
Senior Renee Elefante took first place in News Writing and sophomore Anika Yatawara earned first place in Novice News.
Other winners were sophomore Somiya Jajieh (4th), junior Connor Cho (9th), senior Alex Chun (10th) & sophomore Vera Wang (11th), all in novice news.
Nia Mitchell (9th) in critical review writing.
In Feature writing: seniors Grace Lee (2nd) & Kate Zheng (6th).
In Editorial writing: junior Camille McCurry (4th) & sophomore Reyna Wan (7th)
In sports writing: seniors Johnny Wang (6th) & Ryan Lam (8th)
Junior Josh Chou finished 6th in newspaper layout.
And in the photo categories, freshman Kelsey Wu was third, junior Tiffany Lee fifth, sophomore Abigail Hong sixth & junior Victoria Artale, eighth.
In the Yearbook competition, the team of Shiva Dang, Fiona Huang, Grace Xiao and Cindy Chen finished fifth in layout design & second in copy writing.
The team of Ethan Chavarin, Angela Medina, Aileen Park & Stephanie Pan was ninth in layout design and sixth in copy writing.
