Class of 2013 Parents/Guardians,
This week your freshman student received his/her Course Registration Packet for their sophomore academic school year. Mr. Patterson and Mr. Galeener presented the information to the freshman and explained the process of registering for courses. We encourage you to be involved in your child’s course selection process while allowing them to make choices; we want our students to continue maturing and working on taking care of these tasks on their own with parental support. The registration documents are also on our school website, www.dbhs.org under Class of 2013 and Guidance.
The registration card is due next week, March 29-April 2nd. Your student knows what specific day his/her registration card is due. The card needs to be signed by both student and parent.
Included in our presentation was information on our DBHS Summer Session with registration procedures, dates etc. Also, we informed our students that Thursday, May 13th is the Lottery date for the Class of 2013. This is the date they will receive their Registration Date/Time for their mandatory meeting with their GLC during late July and early August--(July 19 - August 13). We are very fortunate to have this summer opportunity to meet with each of our students and their parents/guardians to personally discuss the student’s progress towards graduation, college planning, personal development etc.
Miscellaneous Issues:
We did inform our students that taking certain courses during summer school may have an impact on their courses as sophomores. The most important topic we shared was for students considering taking Chemistry during summer session. DBHS offers Chemistry during the summer; however, if one of our students takes and passes Chemistry this summer they will not be able to enroll in our Advanced Placement Science program as a sophomore. We simply will not have enough space to accommodate all of our senior and junior students in addition to sophomores. If a student chooses to take Chemistry this summer, he/she may choose another course to take as a sophomore but it will not be AP Science.
