Diamond Bar traveled to Temple City for the CIF Quarter-Finals and came away with a 9-9, 79-68 dramatic victory over the 6th seeded Rams.
The Brahmas took an early lead 4-2 which lasted only a few minutes as Temple City came back and won the second round 4-2 to tie the match at 6-6. The final round had Diamond Bar and Temple City splitting the first four sets for an 8-8 total. With only two sets left to play, Temple took the lead when their number two doubles team beat our number two team, 6-4. We had to win the final set just to bring the match to a tie, 9-9. Sophomore, and number three singles player, Steward Yang had to face Temple's number two singles player. With precision and confidence, Steward pulled off a big upset beating his opponent 6-1 giving us the tie. To break the tie, total games won are then counted. Seniors, Philip Kozan and Derick Tom put the Brahmas in a winning position by overpowering their opponents in singles with scores of 6-0, 6-0,6-1, 6-1, and 6-2. The Brahmas won the match 'on games', 79 to 68.
We play the semi-finals Tuesday, May 25. We will face the winner of #2 seed Brentwood vs the #10 seed Santa Monica.
