Catherine Real was approved as the new Principal for Diamond Bar High School (DBHS) at the Walnut Valley Unified School District (WVUSD) Board of Trustees’ meeting July 14. She is replacing Denis Paul, who retired after 38 years as an educator and 29 years at DBHS. Ms. Real has served as an Assistant Principal, Instructional Dean, Grade Level Coordinator (counselor), and Teacher during her 11 years at Diamond Bar High School. Superintendent Dr. Cyndy Simms said, “Ms. Real’s genuine care for each student, her respect for the strengths of the DBHS staff and appreciation for the contributions of DBHS parents, her instructional leadership, and her unfailing devotion to Diamond Bar High School make her the right choice to lead DBHS in the years to come.”
On her appointment as the 4th Principal in the history of Diamond Bar High, Ms. Real said, “Words cannot express the respect I have for the staff, students, parents, and community as well as the enthusiasm that I'm feeling as we embark on this new partnership together.” She thanks the staff for their “enormous support...and encouragement …that was a great reminder of the sense of family, tradition, and community that we are fortunate to share at Diamond Bar High School.”
Ms. Real has a Bachelor of Arts in French from UCLA, a Master's in Secondary Education from California State University, Fullerton, and a Master's in Counseling from Azusa Pacific University. During her years at DBHS, she has been involved in many activities including 4 years as a Tier Leader and Leadership Team Member with the Occidental College Foreign Language Project (OCFLP), L.A.STARS (Seminars on Theory, Activities, Resources, and Strategies) and advisor to the French Club and the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA). In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she organized DBHS students to be winners of the Walnut Valley Rotary Club 4-WayTest Speech contest, and she was an Advisor for the Class of 2004. She is very proud to have two daughters who are graduates of Diamond Bar High School.
