CLASS OF 2025 GLC NEWSLETTER: Volume 1 Issue 3
REMINDERS/ANNOUNCEMENTS ETC…
Greetings Class of 2025 Students and Parents,
Class of 2025-Incoming Diamond Bar High School 9th Graders
We are your Grade Level Coordinators-GLCs who will work with you and guide you through the next four years of your schooling here at DBHS. Periodically, we will send out a GLC Newsletter with timely announcements which affect our class. We encourage parents and students to closely read these GLC Newsletters and avoid missing out on important topics, deadlines, announcements etc.
Important Message from DBHS Administration:
The message below was emailed to parents on Wednesday, September 15th. We hope you have had the opportunity to read it and most importantly discuss it with your student. We certainly don’t want any DBHS student to be involved in this negative behavior and we especially hope our 9th grade students make wise decisions. Your support in speaking with your student is needed and appreciated.
A message from DIAMOND BAR HIGH SCHOOL
Good Evening Brahma Parents and Guardians,
The purpose of this notification is to bring to your awareness some social media trends that have caused a disruption on our campus. Specifically, a viral TikTok challenge has been an influence on our students, as well as, many campuses around the country. The posts tagged as “Devious licks” or the “Crate challenge” have content of misuse, theft or vandalism on school property. Although TikTok is making efforts to take the posts down, it continues to catch on.
Although many students watch the content for initial humor, after reflection, students often realize it is vandalism and dangerous. Our campus has also been hit with vandalism using items such as soap dispensers, tampering with toilets, school equipment, lunch crates and misuse of construction sandbags causing unexpected damages to our facilities. These acts are in violation of California Education Code 48900 (f) and are subject to disciplinary action.
We ask for your partnership to refocus on what constitutes Brahma Pride. Please take a moment to speak with your student(s) to reinforce that their behavior choices help us to maintain our positive school culture and a safe environment. Please talk with them about social media and how it might seem fun, but has serious consequences. We ask all students who see something, to say something. Safety and access to a clean campus is a priority for us. Thank you, in advance, for joining us in this effort.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 909-594-1405.
Respectfully,
Reuben Jones, Ed.D Principal
Elizabeth Chang, M.A Assistant Principal
Mike Bromberg Operations Manager
PROGRESS REPORTS-END OF 6-WEEK GRADING PERIOD
This Friday, September 17th is the end of our first 6-week grading period. This is an opportunity for students and parents to check their academic progress. We have progress reports at the 6 and 12 week periods of the semester. These 6-week grading periods are a “snapshot” of the student’s academic progress; they are not final grades. Final semester grades will not be reported until the end of the semester, December 16, 2021. Please review these progress grades with your student. Report cards are not mailed home; parents and students must check their grades via Aeries Portal. We encourage students to reach out to their instructors for additional support when struggling in a particular class. Parents-sometimes you may need to also contact your student’s instructors, but only after your student has taken the initiative to ask for further instruction or support from the teacher.
IMPORTANT DROP DEADLINES:
Friday, September 17, 2021: Students may drop a course without any record appearing on their permanent academic transcript through week 6. If a student were to drop a course during weeks 1-6 of instruction, the dropped course would be replaced with a Teacher’s Aide position (or with no class-per GLC approval). This may require other classes, teachers, or periods being adjusted/changed.
Friday, September 24, 2021: Adjusting from an Honors-level course to a College-Preparatory course: Students may request an adjustment to their schedule from an Honors-level course to a College-Preparatory course through week 7 or 1- week after the end of the first grading period. For example: English I Honors changing to English I. These changes will only be made if space exists in the new course. Students must discuss this option with the teacher and identify strategies for success in the course before seeing their GLC. The student must provide their GLC with parental/guardian permission/approval of the request. Changes in the student’s remaining classes may be necessary and teacher and period changes may also result.
REMIND TEXT MESSAGE SYSTEM
We use a REMIND Text message system (no cost) to send out important reminders etc. to students and parents. Please ensure your student has registered for this system. Parents are also encouraged to register.
To VERIFY if a student or parent is registered with our REMIND system, a REMIND message will be sent out at 4:30 pm on Thursday, September 16th regarding this GLC Newsletter. If you did not get this REMIND message PLEASE register with REMIND again!
STUDENTS: We ask that you use your first and last name as they appear on your DBHS school records.

GLC LOCATIONS-AVAILABLE TO TALK
Mr. Patterson and Mrs. Duenas along with all DBHS Grade Level Coordinators are out on campus during our morning break (Brunch) and during lunch. It is a great time to stop and talk with us. Mr. Patterson floats to all parts of our campus and Mrs. Duenas is in the main lunch area for the first 12-weeks of school. As we discussed during our summer meeting, emailing us is also a great way to reach us. Email addresses are below. In addition, any GLC on campus can reach Mr. Patterson or Mrs. Duenas for your student and our guidance secretaries in Office 106 (Mrs. McCurry and Mrs. Tampio) will also reach us for your student when asked.
ATHLETICS TRYOUTS
Students interested in trying out for DBHS Athletics teams must do the following to ensure they are aware of when tryouts take place:
- Check the Athletics Webpage often
- Listen to the weekly Brahma Bullsheet (School Bulletin) read period 4 on Mondays
- Read Dr. Jones’ (DBHS Principal) weekly Brahma Briefing which is emailed to primary parent email addresses and student email addresses. The Brahma Briefing is also posted on the Class of 2025 Webpage, DBHS Webpage etc.
- Students must complete the Athletic Clearance process prior to any tryout on campus. The Athletic Clearance process includes paperwork and having a physical examination done by a physician. See the link below and get started with this process now!
- Girls Soccer Tryouts:
LUNCH/MONEY ETC. DROP OFF POLICY
Please do not drop off forgotten lunches, money, or other packages for students at our attendance office or any other locations on campus. It becomes very problematic for staff to manage the many, many items left for students for pick up.
Off Campus Food: Please do not bring lunch to your student from off campus food establishments. This too can become a security issue when items may be passed to students at various locations on campus.
STUDENT ACCOUNTS-EMAIL ETC.-LAST REMINDER…
Please confirm that your student has set up his/her student account/email system. If this has not been done, it needs to happen now. Contact our DBHS Technology Director, Mr. Randy Thomas, at [email protected]
Mr. Thomas will assist your student with passwords etc. This is very important.
