DIAMOND BAR - Diamond Bar cruised to a 38-21 victory over Nogales on Friday in the season opener for both teams.
Diamond Bar led 38-9 with 9:32 to play in the fourth when Nogales scored the game's final 12 points, but it wasn't nearly enough.
Diamond Bar scored on the opening drive and never trailed. Andrew Cameron started the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown pass to senior Josh Viloria with 10:49 to play in the fir st quarter.
Cameron completed 12 of 17 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Henry Omana completed just three passes, but two were for touchdowns.
Nogales responded with an 11-play, 73-yard drive capped by a 32-yard touchdown run by junior quarterback Keith Bolden on fourth and 2. Bolden finished the game with 141 yards through the air and 54 on the ground, combining for two scores.
Diamond Bar took control from there. The Brahmas took a 14-6 lead on an 18-yard touchdown pass by Omana with 10:45 left in the half. Cameron's 26-yard pass to Viloria gave the Brahmas a 21-6 lead with 8:02 to play. A 29-yard touchdown run by junior Jamaal Clayton gave the Brahmas a 28-6 lead before a Nogales field goal made it 28-9 at the half. Clayton finished the game with 18 carries for 119 yards and one touchdown.
"I thought we did really well on offense," Diamond Bar coach John Martin said. "We moved the ball very well when we needed to. "On defense, after the first quarter, we settled down."
Martin liked what his two quarterbacks did.
"I thought they both did very well," he said. "Both of them can throw it, and we're just happy with both of them."
"The finish to the football game was great; there was no quit," Nogales coach Sebastian Hernandez said.
