Diamond Bar High School remained undefeated with a 24-17 nonleague victory over visiting Don Lugo on Friday night.
The Conquistadores (1-2) had a pair of chances in the closing minutes to tie the score after a 20-yard field goal by Dimitri Melendez.
On the ensuing kickoff, Don Lugo completed a successful onside kick on the Diamond Bar 45-yard line. The Conquistadores drove the ball to the 11-yard line, only to have the drive end on fourth-and-6 after an incomplete pass into the end zone with 2:48 left.
The Brahmas (3-0) went three-and-out and punted the ball into the hands of return man Michael Carr with 1:08 left. The junior broke through several would-be tacklers and returned the ball to the Diamond Bar 15, where he coughed-up the ball. Tim Szulczewski fell on the loose ball to help the Brahmas preserve the victory.
"It was much closer than it should have been. Hats off to Don Lugo. They came after us and they can play," Diamond Bar coach John Martin said.
Andrew Cameron threw a pair of touchdowns for an early 14-0 Diamond Bar lead.
Jacob Moreno scored two touchdowns to tie the score 14-14 in the third quarter.
Diamond Bar responded with the winning touchdown on Henry Omana's 1-yard run.
