CLASS OF 2025 GLC NEWSLETTER: Volume 1 Issue 6
REMINDERS/ANNOUNCEMENTS ETC…
Greetings Class of 2025 Students and Parents,
Class of 2025-Diamond Bar High School 9th Graders
As your Grade Level Coordinators-GLCs, we will work with you and guide you through the next four years of your schooling here at DBHS. Periodically, we will send out a GLC Newsletter with timely announcements which affect our class. We encourage parents and students to closely read these GLC Newsletters and avoid missing out on important topics, deadlines, announcements etc.
SELECTING 10TH GRADE COURSES
We are nearing 10th grade course selection time. Important information:
- GLCs Patterson and Duenas will be visiting all of our 9th Grade English classes the week of February 22nd. Each of our English classes will join us in our DBHS library for a 2-day presentation. We will share with our students registration materials, information on 10th grade course requirements etc. By the end of the week, February 25th, your student will have the registration materials, instructions etc. to make informed decisions on selecting courses for 10th grade.
- We will encourage our students to share these materials with parents and to discuss 10th grade course selection.
- We will also be conducting a College/Career Unit with our 9th graders. This College/Career unit will be incorporated into our visits starting the week of February 22nd. We will review the many options our students have after high school and ensure students have the necessary information to continue their preparation for their chosen path upon their DBHS graduation in May, 2025.
- We understand that students and parents have questions about future DBHS courses, requirements etc. We do ask for your patience and to allow your 9th grader to enjoy and learn from our presentations. We trust that most, if not all, questions will be answered. If not, students will have until the week of March 7th to work on completing their 10th grade course-registration cards. We will meet with our students again the week of March 7th and collect the course-registration cards during this visit. This allows time between our first visit (Week of February 22nd) and our second visit (Week of March 7th) for students to seek us out with any additional questions or concerns. We encourage our students to seek us out on campus and via email with their course registration questions. We will welcome questions from parents as well; however, we encourage the students to take the initiative. Meeting with parents at this time to answer registration questions is a challenge, this is a great time for your student to continue developing his/her confidence and independence by seeking us out.
- An additional goal after this process is completed is that all of our students will have their high school four-year academic plan in place via our Aeries Academic Planner. Projecting what courses each student plans on taking during high school will allow students to plan and prepare for their post-high school options.

9th grade students who have earned a (D+, D, D-, or F) grade in their English, Algebra I, or Modern World History course should be prepared to take summer school this summer to correct these grades. Your student’s GLC will be in touch with your student if he or she qualifies to remediate/repeat a course due to a poor grade. The student who has earned a (D+, D, D- or F) in English, Algebra I or Modern World History DOES NOT NEED to register to repeat one of these courses; the student’s GLC will handle the summer course registration process for the student and will communicate this information to the student in the very near future. (See information below under Walnut Valley Unified School District Courses).
If a current 9th grade student is interested in taking other courses this summer, he or she should consult the summer school registration information via the summer school link. A quick summary of summer school options:
