Listed below are our 2021-2022 DBHS Division Teachers of the Year! Congratulations to Alexis Feix, An Tran, and Diana Wai. One of them will be named DBHS Teacher of the Year based on the votes of their colleagues.
ALEXIS FEIX
The English/ELD, World Languages, Visual & Performing Arts Division Teacher of the Year is Alexis Feix. Alexis Feix serves as an AP Literature teacher, coach, class advisor, and Co-Athletic Director. In addition, she helps with other activities when she sees a need. She shares ideas with the other English teachers for lessons and curriculum and she incorporates SEL strategies in everything she does whether it is in the classroom, on the tennis court, or serving as a Co-Athletic Director. She works hard to support students and staff and always has a positive approach and attitude to any challenge she faces. On top of all her duties as an English Teacher and Co-Athletic Director, Alexis has also taken over the responsibility of COVID Testing/Clearance for all our student athletes. Alexis attends the majority of all athletic events and has been very involved in the planning and coordination of all on-campus athletic banquets. Alexis goes above and beyond the scope of the 8-3 day and is an inspiration to us all. She embodies what is means to be a team-player and a Brahma.
DIANA WAI
The Math, Science, and Special Education Division Teacher of the Year is Diana Wai. Diana has been an exciting addition to our Biology department. She is a fantastic teacher with a great teaching style who is always innovative and exciting with her lesson plans. Diana is knowledgeable and passionate about her students learning biology. She continuously goes the extra mile in the curriculum incorporating excellent instruction with hands-on activities and labs. Diana is extremely kind, patient, and always looks for the best in her students and staff. She is helpful to all students and staff by being willing to stop and listen and checks in with her peers regularly. Teachers can come to Diana with any concerns with new technology or ideas and she is always willing to help. Diana further connects with her students by helping with clubs and campus leadership like WASC. She is always willing to take on additional responsibilities to show her support of DBHS programs.
AN TRAN
The Health/PE, Social Science, Technology, Pathways, & CTE/ROP Division Teacher of the Year is An Tran. An has worked as CTE teacher on the DBHS campus for 5 years. An's effort and guidance to students can be seen all over campus with Printed Works, our on-campus graphic design and manufacturing program. She is also the advisor for DroneScape, which produces much of the aerial cinematography seen in our promotional videos. Students in her classes have successfully secured SolidWorks certification and won state and national level awards competing in SkillsUSA. She is supportive, not just to students, but also to staff. She is very responsive to requests for support and is always willing to help. She goes above and beyond to help students and expands curriculum to best meet students’ needs. She gives a large amount of free time for students' benefit. She is currently working on writing 2 brand new courses for her program and received a $200,000 grant from the CDE to implement the Industrial Design and Engineering Academy program next year. An's program has been adopted by 12 schools across Southern California, leading the way for future innovation in CTE & STEM classrooms.
