I can’t put into words how grateful I am to receive the Emmy award for Outstanding Emerging Journalist, a new category for journalists under the age of 35.⁣⁣

Someone recently asked me: how did a 28 year old American end up in the room with the President Putin? ⁣⁣

⁣⁣

And to be real — it’s a question I asked myself sitting in that press conference.⁣⁣

⁣⁣

I learned a powerful lesson that day: You belong anywhere you want to be. Our time is much better spent asking the tough questions — than it is questioning our right to be in the room. ⁣⁣

For me, the most special part about this night was sharing it with all the people who have made me who I am. My parents who have given everything to provide my brother and I with a life they never had.⁣
