RACHEL SCOTT WINS EMMY AWARD - "Outstanding Emerging Journalist"
ABC News Congressional Correspondent -DBHS CLASS OF 2011
Rachel's Reflection -- "This is a moment I will never forget. And if I’m being honest — I’m still in disbelief.
I can’t put into words how grateful I am to receive the Emmy award for Outstanding Emerging Journalist, a new category for journalists under the age of 35.
Someone recently asked me: how did a 28 year old American end up in the room with the President Putin?
And to be real — it’s a question I asked myself sitting in that press conference.
I learned a powerful lesson that day: You belong anywhere you want to be. Our time is much better spent asking the tough questions — than it is questioning our right to be in the room.
For me, the most special part about this night was sharing it with all the people who have made me who I am. My parents who have given everything to provide my brother and I with a life they never had.
And my ABC family — this award is proof of all that can happen when you believe in someone. Thank you for pouring into me. You represent the best part of this business. "
