WALNUT, CA-- The Walnut Valley Unified School District has reached tentative agreements with both District employee associations – the Walnut Valley Educators Association (WVEA) and the California School Employees Association (CSEA).
If ratified by both employee associations and approved by the Board of Trustees at its December 15th meeting, the agreements would rescind the five furlough days, previously agreed upon due to budget reductions. As a result of this decision, four student instructional days would be restored during the 2010/11 school year. School calendars would be modified to make January 14th, January 18th, February 18th and April 22nd student instructional days.
The restoration of the five furlough days was made possible through the Federal Jobs Fund Act in the amount of $2,800,000. These are one-time funds and can only be used to restore layoffs and to avoid future employee layoffs.
