Congratulations to DBHS Performing Arts Academy President 2023-2024, composer, and Trombonist, Lucas O’Brien, for being accepted to the Los Angeles Philharmonic Composer Fellowship Program (CFP)!
Lucas discovered his passion for composition during his 8th-grade years and has since been self-taught in this field. His exceptional talent in composition became evident during his freshman year in the academy theory class when he presented his final project - "Méditation sur le premier prélude de Clavier J.S. Bach." This piece, performed in our recital in March 2023, featured a rendition of Bach's C Major Prelude with his newly composed jazz-infused melody.
His most recent composition, “Three Pieces for Horn, Trombone, and Tuba,” was a collaborative effort involving two other academy students, Daniel Li and Bryan Chiu (CFP 2022-2023), who contributed to the composition of each movement alongside Lucas. It was premiered by these three academy musicians/composers themselves in our recital last month.
This summer, he is set to be on tour with the PSYO to Prague and Vienna!
CONGRATULATIONS!
