Dear Brahma Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you enjoying the first few weeks of summer!
It is with mixed emotions of elation and sadness that I write to inform you that tonight I was appointed by the Board of Trustees as the Director of Student Support Services at Monrovia Unified School District. My last day will be Friday, June 30, 2023.
It has been my distinct honor to serve as principal of our amazing school! Diamond Bar High School has been home to me since 1995, when I began my Social Science student-teaching assignment here, and joined the athletics coaching staff as a basketball and tennis coach. Over 25 years later, I am proud to reflect on the impact Diamond Bar High School students and staff have had on me both personally and professionally.
In 1996 I was hired as a full-time Social Science teacher and coach. I will never forget how humbled I felt to be trusted to create learning experiences and to coach my students. I remember how our students inspired me and motivated me to be a better educator. I also am reminded of the countless hours in the gym and on the tennis courts building relationships, running practice, and coaching games. Some of my most cherished memories are seeing our students excel in learning and student athletes compete in athletics!
After leaving Diamond Bar for 17 years (1999 - 2016), it has been a complete honor to return and serve as your principal. What a journey! Over the last seven years, we earned a Gold Ribbon Award for our Wellness Center and Performing Arts, Instrumental Music Awards, Athletic League Championships, and most recently, we “Raised the Bar” with a National Blue Ribbon Award for academic achievement, and the only school in California with the honor to perform Disney’s Frozen! I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together. Your educational achievements are incredible. Our campus climate and school culture are exemplar. Our Brahma pride and commitment to excellence are admirable. Our students are the evidence of greatness, and I want to say thank you for allowing me to be a part of your greatness!
I must emphasize that this decision was not made lightly, and it is influenced by personal and professional aspirations that I believe will further contribute to the field of education. Thank you for helping influence and shape these aspirations! And though I will miss our culture and commitment to excellence, I am excited about the new challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in this new district-level role.
During the last two weeks of June I will be working closely with our Superintendent, Dr. Taylor in support of a smooth transition as a new principal is selected to lead our school. I am committed to supporting you and the staff in any way I can during this period.
To the best parents a high school principal could hope to work for, thank you for your support, your educational commitment, and the memories you have allowed me to share with your children. I hold dear these experiences and the impact they have made on me. I look forward to staying connected and hearing about the continued achievements and accomplishments of our Brahmas!
With deep appreciation and warmest regards,
Dr. Jones
