As baseball and softball enter the second week of league play, boys tennis has already showed much promise with an 8-2 overall record. Swimming and track and field have also begun as Diamond Bar spring sports are in full effect.

Baseball: As the Brahmas dive into Hacienda League play, they are currently in possession of a 4-5 record overall and are 2-1 in Hacienda League play. Diamond Bar stands firmly in third place trailing first place Bonita and second place Los Altos. Senior pitcher and outfielder Kenny Matthews ranks second in league behind Bonita’s junior pitcher Justin Garza with 29 strike outs and third in league with a .462 batting average. Senior outfielder Josh Viloria and sophomore outfielder Austin Szulczewski are tied for team second in batting average of .333. As league continues, The Brahmas look to be playoff contenders. Diamond Bar faced Walnut Wednesday. They close out the week traveling to Rowland, Friday, Apr. 1st at 3:30 p.m.

Softball: The lady Brahmas broke through a 1-1 start to league with a win against Walnut, Wednesday March 30 at 3:30 pm. Junior catcher and outfielder Liz Rubalcava leads the league with an impressive .667 batting average and is in front of the pack with a .687 on base percentage (OBP). The outstanding senior captain short stop Stephany La Rosa holds .933 slugging percentage (SLG), who will likely rack up many more home runs during the remainder of the season. The lady Brahmas will end their week in a tournament at Mt. SAC, Friday April 1st. First pitch at 3:00 p.m.

Track & Field: The Brahmas competed in the Chino High School Relays Saturday, March 26. In the men’s competition, the Brahmas came in second place of all division one schools behind Damien, while the women, the lady Brahmas came in fifth place in overall team scoring. The lady Brahmas stayed ahead their Hacienda league counterparts Walnut High, while the Mustangs and Brahmas mens team tied with team scores of 75. The next meet will take place Thursday, March 31st 3:30 p.m. at Rowland High School.

Boys Tennis: Head coach Dave Hamel is impressed with the Brahmas play so far. Diamond Bar is already well into the season, standing tall with an 8-2 overall record and 5-1 in league. Team stand outs are team captain and top-ranked doubles player Calvin Li and Stewart Yang who is ranked first in team singles play. The Brahmas look to continue their dominance at home vs. Los Altos, Thursday, March 31st at 3:30 p.m.

Swimming: The varsity team will be looking for a 2-0 start. Some fresh new varsity faces on the team this season are freshmen Greg White, Kevin Thai, and Spencer Sun, and the ladies welcome freshmen Tiffany Cheng, Desiree Kua, and Vivian Sun on the girl’s team. Some returning heavy hitters are Bennett Yuan and Brianna Hom, both juniors, who keep the varsity team held together with their outstanding talent.

Finally, senior Captains Ryan Ma, Orin Belden, Karissa Chavarin, and Sara Barajas look forward to finishing their swimming career with the Brahmas on a winning note. The Brahma’s last meet was Wednesday, March 30th at 3:30 p.m. vs. West Covina, at Edgewood Middle School.
