DBHS ROBOTICS AWARDED TOP AWARD !!!!
Over the weekend of March 16 & 17, 2024, our competitive robotics team, Team Sprocket, competed at the LA Regional for the FIRST Robotics Competition. Having secured an invite to the FRC World Championship 2 weeks ago, the team provided our underclass members the opportunity to build a 2nd robot (in 10 days) for entry in the competition, in an effort to foster program experience beyond our graduating seniors. These students created a modest design that consistently performed better after each match, with strategic tweaking and fine tuning. After winning their last 2 matches of the competition, our “rookie” team finished in the middle of the pack, against robots designed over the course of 2 months. An impressive feat for our young, aspiring engineers.
But it was in the Outreach category where our Brahmas, once again, truly shined. Our Impact presentation team {Jasmine Buenafe (12), Regan Song (12) & Denielle Tran(12)}, using feedback received from the judges following our last competition, elevated their presentation documenting our students efforts to promote STEAM education in our community. As a result, Team Sprocket was selected as the Impact Award Winner of the 2024 Los Angeles FRC Regional. Here is the official description of award:
“The FIRST Impact Award (formerly Chairman’s Award) is the most prestigious award at FIRST, it honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the mission of FIRST. It was created to keep the central focus of FIRST Robotics Competition on the ultimate goal of transforming the culture in ways that will inspire greater levels of respect and honor for science and technology, as well as encouraging more of today’s youth to become science and technology leaders.”
By winning this award, Team Sprocket will represent Diamond Bar High School in competing for the FIRST World Championship Impact Award against the best robotics programs from over 32 countries.
Please join us in congratulating our student on this tremendous accomplishment.
