ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Ruben Reyes (DBHS Class of 2015)
Congrations to Brahma alum Ruben Reyes for the publication of his book, There is a Rio Grande in Heaven.
While at DBHS, Ruben was a class officer for 3 years, track and cross country for 4 years, yearbook staff, extremely active member of Best Buddies, officer at DBHS and through the national organization.
Just before leaving for Harvard, he self-published a book. Now, after graduating From Harvard and the Iowa Writer’s Workshop and having had writings published in various periodicals, he has officially published his first book: There is a Rio Grande in Heaven.
Heavily influenced by the lives of his parents, both first generation immigrants from El Salvador, his debut work is, “an electrifying debut story collection about Central American identity that spans past, present, and future worlds to reveal what happens when your life is no longer your own.” (stolen from the book jacket)
He had a book signing/reading on Saturday, August 24. It was attended by many Brahmas (a photo of only a few included). Ruben has another signing/reading in CA on Sept 3, at the Ontario City Library. After that he will return to Brooklyn where he now resides.
