Hundreds of local residents came to the Walnut Valley Unified School District office parking lot Saturday for the first Wheel Food Fest.
The Lime Truck, Twist Burgers, Nom Nom Truck, Cool Haus, Don Chow Tacos, Jogaski Burrito, and Slummin’ Gourmet were all on hand, serving everything from lobster corn dogs to blueberry-topped cheeseburgers.
“There is a lot of interesting food,” said attendee Lisa Ambrose. “I think everyone can find something new that they had never tried before.”
A DJ spun music during the event, and volunteers from district high schools directed parking and pitched in around the festival. The event benefited the Walnut Valley Educational Foundation and the Walnut Valley Food Bank, with attendees either paying $2 for admittance or $1 with a canned good.
Many of the food trucks at the event have been on the Food Network, including the Lime Truck, which won season two of The Great Food Truck Race.
“I think that is the reason why so many people are in their line,” Ambrose said. “I’ve heard good things about all of the trucks.”
Plans are already underway for another food truck festival benefit to be held in March 2012.
