Teacher Of The Year Nominees Announced

Each year, the teachers in the three academic divisions of Diamond Bar High School name a teacher of the year within their divisions. From those three, the entire staff votes which teacher will be Diamond Bar High School's Teacher of the Year. The winner will be announced during the Staff Appreciation Luncheon put on by our Magnificent Seven parent's organization on Friday, April 27.
This year's nominess are:


Sandy Davis
is the ECEA division’s nominee.

·         Sandy has taught Civics, History, Leadership, and English in Pathways as well as Peer Counseling and 9th and 12th grade English.

·         Sandy’s commitment extends beyond her classroom as her programs affect the entire student body.  Peer Counseling, DB Forum, as well as a number of other programs she has initiated embody the district vision to serve “every student, every day.”

·         Sandy advocates for the “emotional and academic well-being of the whole student” and school by working with students to establish, maintain, and build a comprehensive Peer Counseling program. 

·         In addition to all of her efforts on campus, Sandy continues to develop as a professional educator and has presented at state-wide conferences in 2005 and 2009 for Career & Technical Education conferences.


Johnny Hwang is the STEM division’s nominee.

 

·         Johnny maintains the highest standards for both his students and for himself.

·         Johnny’s students have consistently scored above the national and school-wide averages on AP exams in the subjects he teaches.

·         Johnny developed and spearheads the Your World project that all AP Environmental Science students participate in each year. Over the years there have been many positive changes both on- and off-campus that resulted directly from Your World projects.

·         Johnny took the initiative to start up and teach our students an outstanding course in robotics.


Ty Watkins
is the Health & Humanities division’s nominee.

 

·         Ty is currently teaching AP U.S. History and American History

·         Ty is currently the Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach as well as the Varsity Boys Golf Head Coach

·         Ty is the club advisor for FBLA

·         Currently serving as a Master Teacher

 

“Teachers almost never observe teachers teach.  But I’ve heard the students talking, and they are unanimous that Ty is fun, engaging, and effective.”
