Each year The Learning Centers at Fairplex offers the community’s high school students an opportunity to be involved in the happenings at Fairplex as junior members of its governing Los Angeles County Fair Association. The Junior Fair Board students are selected through a competitive application process, and participate during their junior and senior year. Through hands-on community projects, students develop their leadership skills, career exploration and community involvement. In addition to these opportunities, the students are awarded a cash scholarship to support their post- secondary education.
The 2012-13 JFB class was recently announced and the selected students are:
Sylvia Guan – Diamond Bar High School
Leila Al-Beitawi – West Covina High School
Mariana Chaidez – Ganesha High School
Haley Coplen – San Dimas High School
Kate DesCombes – Claremont High School
Kourtney Hayhurst – Don Lugo High School (Chino)
Taylor Hughes – Ayala High School (Chino Hills)
Paola Lainez – Garey High School (Pomona)
Sydney Lund – Chino Hills High School
Kevin Park – Bonita High School (La Verne)
Gabriel Parra – Upland High School
Joel Ramierez - Village Academy High School (Pomona)
Jessica Schaller – Diamond Ranch High School (Pomona)
Zakkiyya West – Pomona High School
Tori Whitworth – Glendora High School
Dakota Zucconi – Claremont High School
The members will be instrumental in organizing Fairplex’s SoCal College Fair in October and are expected to complete a community service project in spring. Past recipients of community service projects include the Inland Valley Humane Society and Shoes That Fit.
