Message From GLCs For Class Of 2013

Class of 2013 Mid-Year Reports for Private Universities:

Class of 2013 students who have applied to a private university may need to have a mid-year report submitted to these private universities.

Common Application Universities:  If a senior student applied to a private university via the Common Application process, the mid-year report will be submitted by the student’s Grade Level Coordinator who also submitted the School Report earlier in the application process.  The mid-year report will be sent online by your GLC once first semester grades are posted to your transcript.  Submission of the mid-year report will be around the 2nd or 3rd week of January.  This submission will be done by your GLC if you have already applied via the Common Application process-no need to request your GLC to complete this step-it will be done.

Non Common Application Universities:  If a senior student applied to a private university not using the Common Application process then the student will need to provide his/her GLC with the paper version of the mid-year report with a stamped addressed envelope for the private university or universities.  If the university has a university email or link used for mid-year submission, the GLC will use this method as well.

EACH SENIOR STUDENT NEEDING A MID-YEAR REPORT SUBMITTED MUST ATTEND ONE OF TWO LUNCH TIME WORKSHOPS TO BE HELD THE WEEK OF JANUARY 14, 2013.  UPON YOUR RETURN FROM CHRISTMAS BREAK, THE SPECIFIC DATES AND TIMES OF THESE WORKSHOPS WILL BE ANNOUNCED!  STAY TUNED.

University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU):
University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) campuses DO NOT require mid-year reports to be submitted.  Please do not ask your GLC to send your grades from semester one to a UC or CSU   UNLESS   you have been contacted by a UC or CSU campus and specifically asked to send your first-semester senior grades.

Applying To Junior Colleges:

The process for applying to a junior college such as MSAC, for fall-2013 admission, takes place the first few months of the new year.  Upon your January return to DBHS after our Christmas break, announcements will be made with specific procedures to follow in order to apply to a junior college.  These announcements will include dates of application workshops, assessment test information etc.  We will make these announcements via the school bulletin and via emails home.

Don’t panic!  You have not missed anything and you are not behind.

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid):

Starting January 1, 2013 your student may submit his/her  FAFSA.  The FAFSA is a major step in receiving financial assistance for your current senior and soon to be college student.
Deadline to submit FAFSA:  March 2, 2013.  The earlier you submit the FAFSA and have a complete financial-aid file with your student’s prospective universities the better!  Don’t delay!
Cal Grant GPA Verification Form:  Available in the DBHS Guidance office.  Due date to submit this form to Mrs. Taylor in the Guidance office is Wednesday, February 27th.  Mrs. Taylor will return the completed GPA form to the student in 1-2 days after she receives it.  Deadline to mail the GPA Verification form is March 2, 2013.  Don’t Delay!

Helpful Information for the Financial Aid Process:
Please access the Diamond Bar High School website www.dbhs.org.  Once on our home page, go the Guidance Page and then to the Class of 2013 page.  You will find two very helpful links for the Financial Aid process.  Many of you attended our Financial Aid process held earlier in December in our school theater.  The presentation was loaded with helpful information.  We have posted the Power-Point Presentation from this workshop as well as the handout we reviewed at the workshop.  CHECK IT OUT-THIS WILL HELP YOU IMMENSELY WITH THE FINANCIAL AID PROCESS!

Please keep in mind that the FAFSA applies to any type of college experience including 4-year universities, 2-year junior colleges, and trade schools!  You will never know if you qualify if you do not apply.  You may also be risking loss of “merit” based scholarships at a university if you do not submit the FAFSA as many scholarships at the university level will want information from the FAFSA.
