Our girls golf team traveled to Carmel Valley in their quest for a State Title. The state championship match was played Wednesday, November 20, 2013. Our team finished second in the state!
The Brahmas were the first to tee off at 7:30 a.m., after a long night of rain. The round took a short 4 hours. The scores started to come in one group at a time. After 5 groups, the Brahmas were behind Walnut by 3 strokes but 30 strokes behind the 3 time State Champion Torrey Pines. There was no longer a chance for the championship. It was now between Walnut High and Diamond Bar High for Runner-Up. We had the tie breaker score in our hand by one stroke. Josephine Chang was last to come in and needed to beat Walnut's #2 player by at least 3 strokes. The parents, coaches and players sat around eating K rations anxiously waiting for the final scores.
Josephine came in with a 75 and Walnut had a 78.
The score was now tied 396-396. Senior Lynn Lee shot an 89. Walnut's 6th score was a 90. We won the card off by one stroke. Career rounds by senior Brooke Miller (79) who signed with Drake University to play golf and sophomore Kaitleen Shee (76).
The end of a great season, down to the last stroke.
