Dear Parents and Students:
Beginning January 28, Diamond Bar High School will be accepting applications from eighth-grade students for our International Baccalaureate program, our Brahma Technology Academy, and our Performing Arts Academy. These programs represent exciting opportunities for select members of the class of 2018 to begin enriched courses of study that will prepare them to earn an International Baccalaureate diploma, a Brahma Tech-STEM diploma, and/or specialized training in the performing arts. IB, Brahma Tech, and the Performing Arts Academy all enhance the prestigious and exceptional DBHS educational experience.
The IB program is a journey through an international curriculum in which students are required to grow personally and academically. It is the most academically rigorous program that we offer; as a result, the IB diploma program prepares our students to thrive at any institution of higher learning.
Brahma Tech is a comprehensive program that prepares students for future careers in the highly technological 21st century by offering advanced study in 4 areas: Science and Engineering, Digital Media and Design, Information and Communication Technology, and Computer Science.
Our
Any incoming 9th grader wishing to apply for IB or Brahma Tech must meet the following requirements:
Must check with http://residence.dbhsib.org to verify that they are assigned to DBHS;
Must maintain a 3.00 GPA in the core academic courses in the 8th grade;
Must have completed Algebra I with a grade of A or B prior to the end of the 8th grade.
Admission to the Performing Arts Academy will be achieved through student auditions.
If you and your son/daughter would like to know more about these programs, please plan to attend one of the following information sessions:
· Diamond Bar High School –Tuesday January 28, 2014, 7pm, in the theatre
· Chaparral Middle School–Thursday January 30, 2014, 7pm, in the gymnasium
Parents and students should attend. More information is also available at www.dbhs.org.
Please check your residency at http://residence.dbhsib.org Your application to the IB program at Diamond Bar High School does not determine which high school you will attend; the location of your house or apartment does. Parents and students who live in the Walnut High School residence area should attend one of the Walnut High School IB information meetings in the WHS theatre on January 28 and February 4. These meetings begin at 6:30 pm.
If you do not live within the boundaries of the Walnut Valley Unified School District, you may not be assigned to a high school until May 2014. You should apply now to either the Diamond Bar High School IB prep program or the Walnut High School program (apply to one, not both). Follow the deadlines set by the school to which you are applying. Once the district assigns you to a high school, you can easily transfer your prep application to the correct school by contacting the IB coordinator at either school.
Sincerely,
IB Coordinator Brahma Tech Coordinator Performing
