San Marino and Diamond Bar high schools earned berths in the CIF State Southern California regional tennis tournament.
The Titans, who won their second consecutive CIF-Southern Section Division 2 title on Friday at The Claremont Club, will be home to Del Norte of the CIF-San Diego Section on Tuesday. The Brahmas, who were eliminated by Division 3 runner-up Palm Desert, will play at Palisades on Tuesday.
San Marino is the tournament’s No. 3 seed and Diamond Bar the tournament’s No. 13 seed.
The second round and semifinals are Friday at The Claremont Club and the finals are Saturday at the same venue.
College-style play will be used in the tournament with players playing only one match, with the best-of-three set determining the winner. There will be four singles matches and three doubles matches.
For the first time in school history, Diamond Bar boys tennis has qualified and been accepted to compete in the elite California Regional Team Tennis Tournament beginning this Tuesday. This tournament is similar to a State Finals and pits only the best teams from the Southern, South, Central and Inner City Sections against each other over three days. A total of only sixteen high schools are accepted from an area that spands half the state from San Diego to Fresno. Diamond Bar and CIF Div.II Champion San Marino are the only two San Gabriel Valley teams to be honored. Our first match puts us up against powerhouse Palisades High School at 2:00 at Palisades Tuesday, May 27.
