Eight players shot under par in the CIF-Southern Section Central Division team girls golf finals on Wednesday at Los Serranos Country Club’s south course. Four of those players were from Diamond Bar High School.

“We just knew we had to hit to the green on every shot,” senior Bethany Wu said. “It’s really great that we were all able to go under par. All day we were asking each other, ‘How are you doing?’”

The Brahmas won their third consecutive CIF-SS team title with a five-player total of 358, 12-under-par on the 5,877-yard par-74 course.

“It is really exciting to win it,” Wu said. “It’s pretty cool.”

No other team had more than one player under par and the Brahmas, who have now won titles in the Northern, Eastern and Central divisions, won by 20 strokes. Mira Costa finished second and Torrance third. All three teams will compete in the 12-team all-division CIF-SS team and individual final next week at Western Hills Country Club, also in Chino Hills.

“We just dialed it in,” Diamond Bar coach Tony McCabe said. “Twelve-under. I’ve never heard of any high school team, boys or girls, do that.”

Wu, who tied for the CIF-SS Southern Division individual championship on Monday, shot a 5-under-par 69 to finish second overall in the tournament. She had an eagle on the par-5 447-yard 13th hole, four birdies and a bogey.

Golden Valley’s Elisa Pierre had an eagle and five birdies en route to a 7-under-par 67. She had no bogeys. She had qualified for the individual event at Monday’s Northern Division event.

“This is not an easy course,” McCabe said. “We were ready to go. Now we have to beat some other tough teams next week.”
