Golfers Sign To Attend Universities After Scholarship Offers

Two talented Diamond Bar High School varsity athletes have signed national letters of intent to play golf in college.

Bethany Wu will attend University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Joan Park will attend California State University San Marcos.

Family members and school officials attended a signing ceremony on November 20.

Wu and Park, both 17-years-old, have been friends since they began playing together as freshman.

Wu gave a verbal commitment to play at UCLA during her sophomore year. Today’s signing made it official.

“I love the coaches there and I love UCLA!” Wu said, who plans to major in psychology.

Park is also happy with her decision to play golf in college with a major in child development.

On November 18 the DBHS Girls Golf team won the CIF state championship.

“We won state championship on Tuesday and beat Torrey Pines by 20 strokes,” Wu said.

“Two years ago we played them on the same course - we took 2nd Place and lost by 18 strokes. We improved a lot!”

Winning the gold crown championship was a dream come true.

“I think all the seniors were pumped because it was our last one,” Park said.

“We tied Torrey Pines at state semifinals, so we knew we could do it.”

“Bethany and Joan have been great leaders as well as great golfers,” said Coach Tony McCabe.

When those two girls came into the program it took us to another level. And for four years we’ve been at the top of the ladder.”

DBHS was state runner-up for the past two years.

“We’ve been chasing the Torrey Pines team, who were four-time state champs, and we finally got them on the last day. It’s been a great four-year run!” said McCabe
