Students and Parents of the Class of 2017,
Greetings from your Grade Level Coordinators-Class of 2017. Happy New Year to you all.
As we begin semester 2 of our students’ 10th grade year, we have a few items we want to bring to your attention once again.
Academic Grades
The first semester grades are now part of your student’s academic transcript. The grades for the first semester are the first complete semester of grades which will be part of the Grade Point Average four-year universities will use for admission’s decisions. Keep in mind that any approved UC/CSU A-G course taken starting with Summer Session 2014 through Summer Session 2016 will be part of the admissions’ Grade Point Average for your student.
Four-Year Plans
It is very important that your student has taken the time to complete his/her high school academic course 4-year plan. This will become important when we start registering for 11th grade courses in the next month or two. If your student has not written out his planned courses for the next two school years, please encourage him/her to do so.
Summer School 2015
You should start hearing about summer school registration late next month (February) and/or in March. Please keep an eye on our school website www.dbhs.org for this information.
Registration for 11th Grade
Your Grade Level Coordinators will be working with our students in March and April with completing their 11th grade course requests/registration documents. Be on the look out in March for registration documents which will come home with your student.
SAT/ACT
We have two SAT preparation opportunities coming up for our students here at DBHS. We encourage students to begin practicing for these tests which will mostly be taken during 11th grade.
Opportunity #1: Winter SAT Preparation Class to be taught here at DBHS. Registration forms are available in rooms 564 and 602. Space is limited so act now to reserve your space. First-Come First Serve with a deadline of January 27th. Classes begin February 2nd.
Opportunity #2: Kaplan PSAT program. The Kaplan Test Preparation program conducts a PSAT for our students here at DBHS. The test is a practice test for the SAT Reasoning Test. The test will take place on Saturday, February 21st here at DBHS. The cost of the test is $16. Students can register and pay for the test in the DBHS Finance Office in our Main Office. Don’t delay! This is a practice test so your student’s score on the test is only seen by the student and parents. The Kaplan company also does a follow up with each student when presenting the results of the test.
CAHSEE
The California High School Exit Exam will be administered to the Class of 2017 on February 3rd and 4th. Students will be instructed when and where to report prior to the test dates. The test consists of two parts, Math and English. Both parts must be passed prior to May, 2017 in order for a student to earn a high school diploma from a California high school. If interested, access the following website to learn more about the CAHSEE. http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/hs/
Tutoring
We have several tutoring programs available for our students. Please access this information on our school website, www.dbhs.org. Look for the GUIDANCE link and then the Class of 2017 link.
