Principal Real's Message Regarding Newsweek's Rankings

Dear Diamond Bar Parents and Students,

We are proud to announce that Diamond Bar High School once again ranked among the best high schools in the nation according to Newsweek Magazine. Based on a variety of criteria, DBHS placed 77th in the entire United States and 8th in the state of California! In addition to these excellent rankings, Diamond Bar High School received a gold star in our equity analysis that indicates that our economically disadvantaged students performed at or above the state average for all students on standardized state English language arts and math tests. Keep in mind that there are approximately 30,000 high schools in the country and most of the schools in the top rankings are small, magnet schools that screen prospective students according to their academic abilities.

As you know, Diamond Bar High offers many opportunities for your students. We are particularly proud of Newsweek’s calculation of our students’ college readiness which was a huge factor in our national and state rankings. The college readiness calculation is based on Diamond Bar’s excellent college enrollment rate, graduation rate, AP/IB/Dual Enrollment rate, SAT/ACT scores, student retention between the 9th and 12th grades, and counselor-to-student ratio. More importantly, our college readiness index reflects our philosophy of providing access to rigorous academic courses to more and more students whether that’s in the form of AP and IB courses or access to career tech ed courses for which students receive college credit while still in high school.

Our excellent rankings truly represent a partnership of all stakeholders in the Diamond Bar community including parents, staff, students, the district office, and the city of Diamond Bar. We should be proud of our collective accomplishments and even prouder that our students leave our school prepared to be successful in their post-secondary goals.

It has been an honor serving the community of Diamond Bar.

Sincerely,
