Out of 855 students who submitted an art piece for the ‘Korean American Day Art Contest 2016', Diamond Bar High School junior Elena Deng won the Grand prize. Her painting's name is "Not too far from the light".
There will be an award ceremony on January 9, 2016 where Elena will be presented with a trophy, $500 scholarship or Summer program in Korea.
Her work will be published in a calendar and displayed in 2 exhibitions at the Koreatown Galleria November 23-December 10 and Cerritos Library in December 24-28.
The Korean Education Center in Los Angeles holds an annual Art contest every year to commemorate the 110 years of Korean American immigration history.
Students across the country were given the opportunity to explore Korean culture through their art work.
