April 9 & 10, eleven of Diamond Bar’s Future Health Professionals attended the California HOSA State Leadership Conference (SLC). HOSA = Future Health Professionals (formerly the Health Occupations Students of America)

This was only our second year attending SLC, and there were some amazing accolades and awards that are worth mentioning. Prior to the conference these 11 students took online knowledge tests in content areas such as: Dental Science, Nutrition, Behavioral Health, Medical Terminology, Pharmacology, and Biomedical Laboratory Technology. While in Anaheim this same group of 11 students competed in these events and more,  performing clinical and technical skills related to the content area, facing competition from more than 2,800 other Future Health Professionals from all over the state of California.

At the culminating Grand Awards Ceremony, the following students were honored with state recognition awards:

Dawn Sul, senior – Third Place, Dental Sciences

Lauren Ong, senior – fifth place, Medical Terminology

Elaine Yip, junior –State Finalist, Healthy Lifestyles Exam; second place, Biomedical Laboratory Science (DOUBLE WINNER!!!)

Nikki Jatwani & Elaine Yip, juniors – second round finalists, CPR & First Aid
