Hello Parents & Guardians,
This is Reuben Jones, your new principal. It is amazing that we are already finishing our 2nd week of school! I hope your sons and daughters are off to a great start!
As principal, I am honored to share with you a weekly message to keep you informed and aware of all things Diamond Bar. Mostly everything that I will share is either posted on our website or printed on a flyer somewhere on campus. The purpose of this message is make a special effort to communicate directly with you on a weekly basis. As such, I will send a weekly message home to parents communicating school-wide items, upcoming events and Brahma highlights! The message will normally be sent out Monday mornings around 10:00am. Your input and thoughts are always appreciated so please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
Reflection:
During the first week of school, we opened up the year with a welcome back to school pep rally on the minimum day. It is our way of showing the students how great it is to be back at Diamond Bar! Special thanks to USB, our student leadership group, for organizing the rally. Also last week, our Grade Level Coordinators (GLCs) met with all grade levels and reviewed our school rules and procedures. We wrapped up the first week with our community celebration on Friday night, the Rodeo Round-up! If you missed it, our students, staff and parent groups (Magnificent Seven), organized a fantastic party for all ages. The Magnificent 7 is what we affectionately call our seven parent groups: African-American parents (CAAP), Brahma Boosters, Brahma Foundation, Chinese-American parents (CAPA), Hispanic parents (HOPE), Korean-American parents (KAPA), and South Asian parents (SAPA). All of the food at our Rodeo Round-up was donated by the Mag 7 and all the proceeds raised went directly to support our student programs! Thanks President Rachel Chang and the Mag 7 for a great way to begin the year.
Updates:
I am excited to report that we have been once again ranked as one of the top high schools in our State and Nation by Newsweek. Newsweek’s top 500 schools in the nation awarded us the ranking of 128! And out of the top 500 schools, 51 are in California. Of the 51 schools in California, our ranking is 19th in California! Special thanks to our extrodinary teachers who provide world-class instruction for our students and thanks to our exceptional students who continue to perform in all areas of school involvement, academics, arts, athletics and activities. You should feel very good about the amazing school your sons and daughters attend and we are more and more committed to continuing to see all of our students succeed!
I apologize for the inconvenience, but our original Back To School Night date was scheduled for Thursday, September 8 (old Date). Due to scheduling conflicts, we had to move our Back To School Night to Wednesday, August 31. Please note your calendar and I look forward to welcoming you to campus next week, 8/31. We will meet together in the Gym at 6:30 pm.
We are looking for new student leadership for the class of 2020. Is your son or daughter interested in school leadership? Freshmen Class Officer Applications are available in the Activities office. The Deadline to apply is next week, August 31.
Technology update - The user name students use to sign in our school network has changed from ID#@g.wvusd.k12.ca.us to ID#@stu.wvusd.org Other than their user names, their accounts remain the same. Their passwords remain unchanged. Their files will be preserved. Please remind your child of the change.
