Principal Jones's Weekly Update - Aug 29, 2016

Hello Parents & Guardians,

WEEK 3 - August 29 - September 2, 2016Branding Iron Week!

Reflection

Last week there were some important developments with the District of Choice (DOC). First, as a DOC parent of 9 years (I have three children attending WVUSD schools), I not only have the honor of fighting for DOC as principal but personally am vested to see the existing law remain. Last weekend, 8/27, close to one thousand people gathered at Maple Hill Park to rally about Senate Bill 1432. Please stay active and reach out to our legislature in support of DOC. Special thanks to Teruni Evans, dedicated Diamond Bar High parent who spearheaded this important rally for our community. As a reminder, as of now, DOC is gone. Why? Because Mrs. Lorena Gonzalez, Chairwoman of the Appropriations Committee, will not allow the bill to move forward. We have until Wednesday, 8/31 for the bill to be reauthorized. We also want Mr. Rendon (Speaker of the Assembly) to know of our support for Senate Bill 1432. Attached to this email is a fact sheet about DOC and its impact on WVUSD.

Special thanks to our Instructional Dean, Whitney Prenger who led a new teacher orientation and helped get our new teachers acclimated to Diamond Bar. Our new teachers are: Esther Cho (English), Alexis Feix (English/Tennis Coach), Tametha Fulcher (ASDi), Cage Morgan (English), Linda Morales (Technology), Luke Shubin (AP Computer Science, Technology/Football Coach), An Tran (Architecture/Engineering), and Brianna Woods (English).
