Hello Brahmas, 

WEEK 4 – September 6 - September 9, 2016 

Reflection: 

Last week was full of activity…Back To School Night on Wednesday, Pep Rallies all week long, and our Branding Iron Football Game on Friday night. I hope everyone had a well-deserved and restful 3-day weekend!

Thank you so much for your attendance at our Back To School Night! We packed the GYM with over a thousand parents in support of our teachers and students. Special thanks to Nishat Nayem and Ariana Gonzalez for leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. Also, our Brahma Drum Line performed during our general meeting in the GYM and did an outstanding job!  

Congratulations to our Brahma Football team and Coach Marcus Hughes for successfully defeating Walnut High in our Inter-District rivalry game! This year’s win marks our 6^th year in a row of defending the “Branding Iron”!

Update on Senate Bill 1432 – DOC did not make it out of the Appropriations Committee by the August 31 deadline. Both the Senate and Assembly are in recess now and as discussed last week, our current DOC students will stay in our District for the 2016 -2017 school year. If new legislation is not passed in the spring of 2017, the 3600+ students who attend Walnut Valley will return to their home district in the Fall 2017. More information about DOC will come in spring 2017.

Updates & Reminders: 

• CLUB Rush – 9/6 – 9/13: This week marks the beginning of Club Rush week where we have over a hundred clubs for students to join. Special thanks to our Teachers who advise all of our clubs. I encourage all Brahmas to get involved!  

• Class of 2020 Elections: Students running for class office will present speeches on Wednesday, 9/7 during lunch and the On-line Voting begins at 1pm right after the speeches.

• Update, undergraduate (Grades 9 - 11) pictures were last week. There will be two more opportunities if you missed the pictures. I will post the new dates when they become available here.

• Reminder, this Friday, September 9, is the last day to drop a class. See your GLC if you have any questions.

• Update – our Varsity, JV and Freshman Football games have changed this week. Freshman and JV will play at home on Thursday, 3:15 and 5:30 and Varsity will play away on Friday night 7pm at Covina District Stadium.
