If seniors have this prepared before October 3rd, please submit in person to their GLC as soon as the information is ready! Students must invite their GLC via Common Application prior to presenting the “brown” envelope to their GLC (More information below in #4)
PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST DAY TO SUBMIT YOUR ENVELOPE TO YOUR GLC! MR. PATTERSON AND MRS. DUENAS WILL BE IN THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFICES ON MONDAY DURING LUNCH IF YOU NEED TO SEE THEM! WE ARE USUALLY OUT ON CAMPUS ON DUTY DURING LUNCH; HOWEVER, MONDAY, OCTOBER 3RD WE WILL BE AVAILABLE IN OUR OFFICE AT LUNCH.
Envelopes will not be accepted after Monday, October 3rd. In addition, students SHOULD NOT leave their envelope in our mailbox, on our desk, or ask another student to deliver to the GLC! Hand deliver the envelope to your GLC. We will ask you a few questions upon delivery of the envelope.
REMINDER: University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) campuses DO NOT REQUIRE A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION OR ANY DOCUMENTS PROVIDED BY YOUR GLC. Both the UC and CSU application can be completed and submitted without any documents from your GLC. STUDENTS SHOULD NOT PLACE ANY UC OR CSU CAMPUS ON THEIR SENIOR PROFILE COVER PAGE OF THEIR LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION ENVELOPE PROVIDED TO THEIR GLC BY OCTOBER 3RD.
The cover page on the brown envelope has been updated to clarify this information for all students. The only universities which should be listed on your SENIOR PROFILE COVER PAGE on your brown envelope are universities which need documents submitted by your GLC. These documents may include a Secondary School Report and an academic transcript.
Most Universities listed on your SENIOR PROFILE COVER PAGE will be universities which are part of the COMMON APPLICATION process.
If you do apply to a university which requires documents to be submitted by your GLC and the university is NOT PART OF THE COMMON APPLICATION process, please place them on the COVER PAGE of the brown envelope and in the appropriate column indicate No for Common Application. For these schools you will need to do one of the following:
1. Provide in the brown envelope the paper copy of the documents your GLC needs to complete for the Non-Common Application school. In addition, provide a smaller regular white envelope with two stamps already applied on the envelope and address the envelope to be mailed to the address of the university. Leave the return address in the upper left corner blank.
2. If the Non-Common Application school does not have paper copies of the documents, please provide us with the electronic link/address which your GLC can use to access the required documents. Your GLC will electronically submit any required documents.
3. College Application Process-Class of 2017-DBHS
Misc. Helpful Topics/Solutions regarding College Applications:
· MISC. Application Process Items:
o UC APPLICATION: Use the Additional Comments Section for any special situations you may have had with your academics during your high school career. They are providing you with an opportunity to explain any special situations which may have impacted your academic performance during high school
o California State ID Number: Students may be asked to provide a California State ID number for a college application. This number can be found at the bottom left corner of the student’s DBHS transcript.
o Repeat Courses: Please report all grades earned. If you took a course and then repeated the course-you must put the grades for both attempts at the course!!
o UC Letters of Recommendations: UC campuses do not want letters of recommendations. Do not send them with your application. Now that being said, UC Berkeley may request a Letter of Recommendation from certain students. UC Berkeley will notify the student via email with the “specific” request for the letter so only send it if asked to do so.
o All Applications: Changes in your application: Once you submit an application, if anything changes in regards to your academics, you must notify the universities to which you applied and inform them of the change. This includes if you placed a course on your application for both 1st and 2nd semester and you end up not taking the 2nd semester of the course-You MUST tell the universities this and keep a record of how and when you sent the notification. In addition, if you earn a (semester) grade lower than a C- in any senior course you place on your application, you must notify the universities. This would be shortly after first semester grades are finalized in early January. This only applies to final semester grades.
o All Applications: Read your emails: Once you submit your application to a university, it is the student’s responsibility to check emails daily for any correspondence from the universities. This will be the way universities request additional information etc.
o SAT/ACT Scores: Please make sure you request the testing agencies to electronically send your SAT and/or ACT scores directly to the universities to which you will apply. When you request scores to be sent a transcript of all of your SAT or ACT scores will be sent to your requested destinations. If you send your scores to (1) UC campus all UC campuses will have access to the scores. If you are applying to multiple Cal State campuses use the code (3594) when requesting scores and your SAT scores will be available to all Cal State campuses you apply to…
o All Applications: Honesty: Be 100% honest on your application. Use your transcript to ensure you are reporting grades accurately and report extracurricular activities accurately as well. Schools will check up on applications and ensure honesty!
Applying to a Cal State University (CSU) and/or a University of California (UC):
CSU’s and UC’s do not require Letters Of Recommendation or Secondary School Reports. When you apply to a CSU or UC, you will “self-report” your grades on the application using your high school transcript. You will NOT submit a transcript to a CSU or UC unless an individual campus specifically requests you send a transcript! We will supply each student in the Class of 2017 with an unofficial copy of your academic transcript at your GLC appointment this summer.
CSU:
For students applying to the CSU for Fall 2017, the application window for Cal State Universities opens on October 1st and will close on November 30, 2016. This means you are able to create an account, complete your application and submit to the Cal State Universities starting October 1, 2016.

9. Students considering applying to the University of Southern California (USC) please read….USC has two deadlines for applications. The first deadline is December 1, 2016 and this deadline is for admission consideration and for scholarship (financial assistance) consideration. USC also has a January deadline (which is listed on Common Application) however, this deadline will not give the student any consideration for scholarship/financial assistance. We suggest you use the December deadline!
