Hello Brahmas,
WEEK 9 – October 10 – October 13, 2016
Reflection:
Welcome to Week 9. Our first semester is in high gear. I hope your sons and daughters have found a smooth rhythm for the pace and responsibilities of high school. As a reminder, we have our Grade Level Coordinators, Intervention Counselor, School Psychologists, Peer Counselors and Wellness Center available to offer support and strategies for success. Please encourage your child to reach out if they need any support.
This week, I have the privilege of highlighting one of our programs which is truly leading the nation in showing how to support students, the Wellness Center. Last weekend, our Wellness Center (Click HERE for the Wellness Center website) was recognized at Facebook Headquarters in Menlo Park, CA as a recipient of the 2016 Changemaker award! I am so proud of junior peer counselor, Brandon Tang and graduate peer counselor, Nikka Pisigan for their presentations and student leadership at the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Summit at Facebook Headquarters. I observed them discuss the importance of mental health and wellness with students, distinguished professors from Yale University, and Facebook staff! Our Wellness Center was one of 10 schools across the nation recognized for this work. Our Wellness Center exists because of the pioneering work of Mrs. Sandy Davis (Wellness Center Coordinator), Mr. Albert Lim (Peer Counseling Advisor), Stacie Woodward and Lori Lowe (School Psychologists). The Wellness Center is open everyday periods 1 – 6 for students to receive support from trained Peer Counselors and professional staff. Part of the Changemaker award included a $5000 grant for continued growth and additional resources. Special thanks to former Principal Catherine Real and former Assistant Principal John Terry for their support and leadership to lay the foundation for the Wellness Center!
