The weekend of April 1, DBHS Theatre Arts students participated in the California Thespian State Festival which was attended by 2000+ students from all over the state.  Our students attended workshops on leadership, artistic content, and the business of theatre.   They also competed in various categories and the following students earned top marks of Superior in their categories:

Amelia Anijielo-- Solo Musical

Mary Thomas and Riley Mawhorter-- Duet Musical

Matthew Lee-- Monologue

Julianna King-- Monologue

Amelia Anijielo-- Monologue

Jana Yamak-- Monologue

Amelia Anijielo and Chloe Reyes auditioned for the All State Show which is constructed over the three days of the festival and performed on the last day.  Both had the distinction of being cast as one of the 30 cast members out of the over 250 who auditioned.

Additionally our Improv Team of Luke Teerling, Ellie Desmond, Mary Thomas, Matthew Lee, and Arvind Singh place third out of 20 teams competing in the Improv Competition.  If you have not had a chance to see these very nimble minded students perform, please come out to an improv show.   They are truly funny and agile-minded!

Amelia Anijielo earned a ranking of 3rd place in the state for her monologue performances.  The competition was close that a single point was the difference between 1st and 3rd.  The level of performances this year were truly impressive.  Congratulations!
